The Ogham Alphabet
The Ogham is an early medieval alphabet used primarily on stone inscriptions in Ireland and western Britain. Each letter is named for a tree or plant, giving the alphabet a deep connection to the natural world. The Celtic tree zodiac uses this Ogham-letter-to-tree correspondence as its foundation.
Robert Graves & The White Goddess
The thirteen-month tree calendar was popularized by poet and scholar Robert Graves in his 1948 work The White Goddess. Drawing on Irish mythological sources, Graves reconstructed a lunar calendar of thirteen 28-day months plus one intercalary day — the Nameless Day on December 23.
The Nameless Day
December 23 is the single day that falls outside the thirteen tree-months — the intercalary day that completes the solar year. It belongs to no tree and all trees. Those born on this day carry the energy of pure potential, the void from which all trees grow.
